Suffering from the paradox between molecular disorder in thermodynamically driven systems and the sequence-specificity of peptides, solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPSS) has long been criticized for its complicated steps of protection/deprotection and massive organic solvent consumption. Recently, we are grateful for the news that our group has been awarded the 2024 ACS Green Chemistry Institute Pharmaceutical Roundtable (GCIPR) Ignition Grant for research to develop novel methods and strategies for greener synthesis and purification. The ACS GCIPR is a partnership between the ACS Green Chemistry Institute® and leading pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Merck, and GlaxoSmithKline. The ACS GCIPR Ignition Grant aims at fostering innovative research that reduces waste, minimizes hazardous substances, and creates more efficient chemical processes for cleaner safer drug discovery and production.
